Meet Themba Makamo, an entrepreneur who has created a sneaker that helps people achieve their goals.
“I realized that whenever we embark on any journey in life, whether to a job interview, a performance, a date or event, the shoes you wear influence how confidant you are going to feel.”
This is how VAYA FOOTWEAR was born in the township of Katlehong (Gauteng) in 2019 as an idea. Without any funding, he raised his own capital to manufacture the first 100 pairs. And with the help of other fellow entrepreneurs, they started taking pre-orders in 2020. The pairs sold out within a week when they eventually arrived in February 2021.
“The idea is for a person to be inspired to “Go For It” when they wear VAYA. And through VAYA Footwear, we aim to launch various initiatives, such as workshops, skills development, mentor ship programs and also create job opportunities that will assist people achieve their goals”
We are not only building a brand that reminds you to go after your dreams but one that will help a new generation of ambitious Africans tell their stories.”
